Check out THIS article from asian week

THE CAGES GET KIM-POSSIBLE

Nicolas Cage is a 6’1” Coppola dynamo, and is guilty of giving more than just Johnny Depp his first acting job. Korean wife, Alice Kim Cage, just wrapped up her first film, The Thief Lord, as the assistant visual effects editor. That’s a huge leap from being a sushi waitress just two years prior to eloping with the actor. I’m sure USC film students are raving mad — and eyeing the comb-over celebrity to fill their résumés and lessen the load of student loans.

I'm dying to know what "visual effects" she edited.  Maybe she flipped off the lightswitch in the studio, then five seconds later it came back on and Nic's credit card had disappered.

Wow, it's magic!

i bet he got her the job so she'd stay out of his hair when he was filming Lord of War.  as long as she isn't given a role onscreen I don't care what she does.

notice the "love" scenes from LOW aren't real convincing.....because she's there watching and whining.

I swear, I am the mistress of my own fate.  The bad karma I make for myself every time I post here is really starting to add up.

You have to ask yourself... would saying nice things about Nic and Alice's relationship bring positive vibes into my OWN life as well?

Maybe, but it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining.

I totally agree. Everything looked so forced and uncomfortable. Even in the shower! I wanted to see him shake her naked and eat her alive!!!!!

Well. Again this is just gossip. But around Hell-ay everyone was talking about how 'Ava' was supposed to represent something else to him in his personal life. But with wifey looking on from the sidelines while filming he felt VERY uncomfortable filming these scenes. She would literally storm off the set and he would have to go chase her down. You know. Honeymoon and all. Wouldn't want to piss her off too much. I hear she acts like a spoiled brat when he's filming. Especially in Australia while filming Ghost Rider!!! Damn! Girl! Grow up already!!!!!

well this is the other Ava's opinion.  if you marry a child you can expect petulant, selfish, immature behavior. Nick didn't marry a woman.  He married a child who needs to grow up.  maybe there is a reason he is known for being called Daddy afterall.

I posted a question about this particular job on Yahoo answers. Here's the reply:

A special effects director is more commonly referred to in the industry as the visual effects supervisor. They are responsible for overseeing the visual effects crew. More often than not, the visual effects supervisor will oversee a particular project, and may take on a role more similar to a project manager or a site supervisor than as a "director". If this particular position is what your overall goal is, it's the culmination of years and years of working your way up to that position. Most supervisors on film projects will start at the very bottom (i.e. production assistant) and through the years work up the cred and the experience to get the top position.

As far as salary goes, its not unlikely that a VES will make between $80,000-$100,000 a year, and depending on the projects they undertake, maybe a LOT more. I'm sure some are millionaires, it just depends.

A visual effects company, such as Industrial Light and Magic in San Francisco, CA, can have thousands of employees each working on various visual effects projects, and some of these jobs might not be a bad place to start in an effort to work your way up the ladder. It's just like any other job, you'll have to pay your dues. Some of the jobs available in the field include technical directors, software developers, scientists, art directors, producers, modelmakers, animators, editors, audio production and foley artists, production assistants, camera operators, or stage technicians.

Check out the ILM website for some of the current job openings that they have. They're the industry leader in terms of special effects for movies, but there are others out there with similar sites.

This is an excellent question, Ella.  I would also like to know if I would need an agent.  I am working on three scripts right now... they're all in the early stages, but I guess I need to know this right away.  Also, does it hurt your chances if you don't live in the LA or NY area?  I'm an Okie, so there's a bit of distance between me and Hollywood.  I would think that it would be better if you lived near where "the action" is.

You know.........NO you don't have to be where the action is ...only if someone hired or is interested in what you do ...then they will pay to make you come in the area

Hey lol

OK, so I'm curious about something... this refers to a visual effects supervisor... but wha about an assistant visual effects editor?  That's a different position, right?  Doesn't she need some kind of experience and training to do that as well?  I'm gonna look that up and find out... but I'm sure your dad would know at least a little bit about it.

See, the thing that pisses me off is that she's getting this job only because she sunk her claws into Nic.  She has zero work-related experience or training, but she's getting this nifty-swifty job working on a movie, taking up a position that someone with real knowledge and skill should be doing instead.  He made such a big deal about fighting nepotism regarding being the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola, going so far as to take up a stage name.  So how is this situation any better?

Oh, wait, I get it.... he got to throw it down her hallway without a raincoat, so that makes it alright (rolls eyes).

No you do not need an agent. And I don't know why someone told you that Kimmy. You can send things freelance. As for Ms. Thing yeah you DO need experience. And coming from someone who didn't even graduate from ****ing high school I seriously doubt she has it!!!!!!

this job had to have been landed as a favor to Nick so he culd get her out of his hair while he was filming Lord of War.  i bet the job consisted of being a gofer and nothing else.  im surprised Nick would have fallen into nepotism.

Actually, it was with me... we got freaky in the shower once.  It was great.  That's how I came up with that love scene in "Castor Troy".
