So this is one of the movies that I recently purchased at Amazon.com to complete my collection, and I remember reading an interview that Nicolas gave years ago where he talks about this film. He said, and I quote, "It wasn't very good". I thought he was just being modest.
Well, he wasn't.
The best thing I can say for this film is that he looks FANTASTIC in it, but he looks fantastic is almost ALL of his films. It's a low-rent "Top Gun", with a watered-down plot, tedious flight simulation scenes and wooden acting. Sean Young is the love interest, and I don't think there could have been a worse choice for an actress. I think maybe the director backed into Sean's car at some point, and decided to give her a role in the movie instead of paying for her repairs and jacking with his insurance. That is the only plausible reason there could be for casting this woman. Her attempt at acting would make you laugh if you weren't covering your ears and cringing in the corner the whole time. She is HORRIBLE.
Oh, and I think the director had a weird, sicko obsession with Phil Collins because the main love song and the ending credits song were both written and recorded by him. Just bad, bad, bad all the way around. But as I said before, Nicolas is some first-chair wicked eye candy in this flick... he knows how to work fatigues and combat olive green like nobody else in Hollywood. So if you're bored and don't mind exposing yourself to Sean Young and Phil Collins music, check this flick out.
