Awesome Ella! I wish there was more to it though. Hopefully they'll put up some pics soon. That would be great!

Me too Meg! It's getting alot of heat on the IMDB message board. Everyone seems to be turning this into a big political debate!

Hey everybody,

With the coming release of "World Trade Center" in August nearly 5 years after the events of 9/11, the website for the film has been slightly activated but included a Flash featurette showing interviews with the real people as well as never before seen photos from the film that look very good. From the looks of things already, Oliver Stone may have done this film right but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Anyway, here is the link to the main website. Just click on the "Enter Site" link and don't hit the "Skip" button or you will miss the featurette.

When I turned on my computer this morning, the opening page of MSN had a link to "WTC". It was a short trailer to the movie, and it was very compelling and moving. Just that small clip made me want to cry.

Nic does a great job on the "Bronx" accent! I will be watching this one for sure. Looks like they did a wonderful job on it!

You know, this sounds horrid because as a huge Nic fan I should be going out right away and seeing every movie he releases.  But for some reason, I have zero interest in seeing this one.  Something tells me this movie will crash and burn.  Here's why:

*  9/11 was such a deeply controversial and emotional event that there is no conceivable way anyone can portray the many facets of anguish, desperation and resolution on film in 2 - 2 1/2 hours... at least, not to the satisfaction of most people.  Oliver Stone is a tremendously talented man, a true visionary, but NOBODY can successfully pull something like this off.

*  Nic is going to be put under the microscope for his performance and I'm afraid not many people will appreciate his style.  Now, WE all know what a fantastic actor he is, but there are many people out there who just don't care for him - because they already know too much about him, about who he is and what he represents in Hollywood.  For that matter, there are NO famous actors that should have been put in this role.  They should have went with an unknown... a fresh face, a blank slate, someone who can just go out there and do it and whose talent and vision will only be based on that performance alone.  People who don't like Nic are going to cloud their judgement of this performance (which is going to be strained anyway, given the sensitive nature of the material) and say, "Oh, Nic is a lousy actor, he was totally unbelievable the whole time.  He should stick to comic books and leather pants.".  Such is the nature of *******s.

*  A significant number of people are going to hate this movie because they will feel it's disrespectful and cheapens the whole event and the memories of those involved.

All of these factors lead to believe this movie will not do so well in the box office....but for the sake of everyone involved, I pray that I'm dead wrong.

I base my opinion not on any doubts I have about Nic or Oliver Stone (I have none), but about the nature of the average moviegoer.  Let's be honest... most of them are armchair Eberts without the intelligence.  They like "smack-smack", whether that be two bodies smacking together (fist fights or otherwise  ), two cars smacking together or someone just talking smack in a funny voice.  People go to the movies to be amused and to forget their issues for a couple of hours, not to weep and ponder the cruel twist of fate that is Life.

However, this flick would have been a fantastic TV movie.  It might do quite well as a rental also.  Most of Nic's films are that way.

Hey, Ella, what's your dad's opinion on this film?  Does he think it will be a success?

We discussed this movie on our last vacation. He says that it will be a strong presence at the box office. I believe him. I mean Nic isn't doing this role to glorify 9/11 or anything like that. He's telling a human interest story as only he can tell. My family will be going to see this one.

I sure hope all of you are right... I am far more inclined to believe your opinion (and your dad's) because you are closer to the heart of the movie industry.

This movie isn't going to be a big premiere kinda thing. It's going to be more of a personal look from two people's point of view. You won't see all that actually happened on 9/11 in this film. But you will definately know what's going on. I think we all will need a box of kleenex!

I don't think I'll be able to watch it in the theatre.  I will probably have to wait for it to come out on DVD.

I can ditto everything Damaris said and I will wait for the video.  I'm sorry, but I've been too close to death with both my kids (right down to funeral plans) that I don't watch death movies now.  I don't need the reminder that life is short and be thankful for the people in my life - I get that everyday.

Some day I will be emotionally strong enough to watch this, but right now I'd rather stick to his lighter movies : smash-smash as Damaris calls them or romantic comedies.

No I don't know if they'll use those or not. I never really thought much about it. It won't be about anyone else except those two policemen so it probably won't be in it.

I heard that the org. tapes would only be shown on someone's TV (like they are watching the news) and wouldn't be the whole movie screen.

I heard the most terrifying, horrible thing just now... stupid me, I clicked on a link to a 911 call that was recorded by a dispatcher... it was of two guys trapped in one of the offices in the north tower.

They didn't make it.

I don't really want to discuss how that's apparent, but you know by the end of the call.  It was sickening.  To be honest, it made me feel so guilty for complaining about the stupid childish things that I do, and also made me feel guilty to be here, safe and sound, when all those other people died needlessly.

Now I KNOW I can't watch that movie.  I just can't.  I will be physically ill if I have to see it.

Got this DVD this past weekend and watched it just so I could say that I had seen all his movies up to this day (until "Ghost Rider" arrives!)

We thought it was pretty good. It handled a very delicate topic with much respect. I was glad I watched it. Nic's face is mostly all you see of him, and it's covered with debris, but still it was pretty good. I liked his "Bronx" accent. lol.
