So I got in this big debate on another message board about shoes and purses.
I asked the simple innocent question, "Is it OK to match your shoes to your purse, or is this old-fashioned?". I then mentioned that the purses that are in style (sequined) would look ridiculous when paired with matching shoes (although, believe it or not, I have actually seen this - a woman with matching silver sequined high heeled boots. It was excruciating.). And since I'm not into the sequined purses anyway, this would not apply to me, but is it OK to match other types of purses to shoes?
WELL! Not only did I get a thorough dressing-down for even CONSIDERING matching my shoes to my purse (apparently this is WAY old school, as in "so old school, they tore down the school 30 years ago and built a Wal-Mart in its place"), but I was also told in no uncertain terms that sequined purses were VERY much in style, very feminine and they give men a great excuse to strike up a conversation with you. When I reiterated that I have had men strike up conversations with me over other articles of clothing besides my purse (see the weirdo pants incident for more information), I was neatly put in my place with the assurance that this was simply not possible, that you HAD to have something femmy, bright and flashy to get a man's attention... otherwise you were simply "not on".
Well, then.... do YOU match your shoes to your purse?

NO WAY! I think it's tacky to be honest with you. Unless they're both black or some neutral color like that. As far as the sequined purses. I think they are targeted more for the younger generation since that's about all I see carrying them. I'm not so sure about the "men being more attracted to them" idea either. I mean since when the f*ck does a man care about what kind of purse your carrying!?
I would never consider wearing pink shoes with a pink purse, of course. Yes, I meant black with black or neutral with neutral. I do like shoes and purses of different colors, but I would not match those. Do you think it's OK to match your shoes and purse seperately to your outfit (for example, if you have a sweater that has brown and orange in it, can you have brown shoes and an orange purse?)? I really am clueless about this stuff, so I just stick with neutrals whenever possible.
Sequined purses don't do it for me, either. I have seen women of all ages carrying them around. It's odd. They carry these big flashy sequined purses that look like something for New Year's Eve, but then wear a sloppy old sweatshirt and beat-up tennis shoes.

Nah! If I had a sweater like that I would probably pair it off with the brown shoes & brown or black purse. Orange would be too bold I think. But then again, I'm really not the type that likes to stand out so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask! LOL! But yeah those sequined purses are nasty. You really have to have a certain look to pull one of those off. And even then I can only really see them being used for clubbing or something like that.
I do have an orange suede purse with brown trim that's cute for fall, and I use it sometimes with certain outfits. But I mostly carry black or brown purses because they go with almost everything I own. I do have one purse that I LOVE... it looks like a pair of jeans, with the zipper and pockets. Dark blue denim, with a little black "belt" lining the top. I get a lot of compliments on it, and I'm sure it costs a few bucks at one time, but I got it at a consignment shop for almost nothing.

That orange one sounds cute D! Is it like a bright orange or a darker orange? If it has a bit of brown trim in it, then I think it would go nicely with that outfit.
The denim one sounds cute too & probably goes with alot of your casual wear. Most of my purses are black, but I do have a Nine West plum barrel bag that I'm using right now. I don't care what it matches, I like it! LOL! I also have one that I got from Newport News that's cream color with black croc trim along the top. Again, it goes with nothing, but I like it!
Those sound so cute, perfect! I love those colors!
My orange purse is sort of a bright burnt orange, if that makes any sense. It's very, very orange... but the brown leather trim kind of tones it down. It looks good with brown loafers, jeans and a cream or brown shirt. I also have a plaid miniskirt in orange, brown, cream and turquoise that it matches.
The denim purse is very good for casual clothes. It's a structured purse (flat bottom with feet), not saggy and sloppy, so it looks a little dressy without being over the top. I also have a black/red/white plaid purse that I love for fall and winter, but I need to fix the zipper on that one. This and the orange/brown one came from Avon. I love their stuff. The purse was sold with a pair of shoes that sort of match it but not perfectly... they're black and white herringbone ballet slipper flats. I got the shoes, the herringbone cap AND the purse... but you can only wear this stuff with an all-black outfit, otherwise it looks silly. A black turtleneck, miniskirt and tights are perfect for this.
My other purses are: straw (no trim), straw/navy blue trim, white, brown "backpack" style", caramel "backpack" style, a furry leopard print purse that is actually a cell phone holder/organizer with a little pocket for change, and a small red satin embroidered purse I got at the Asian superstore. Oh, and I also have a Kate Spade purse (a real one!) that I got for $2 at a thrift shop. I know it's real because it has feet on it. I've tried selling it at consignment shops, but it's ugly as sin so nobody will buy it even if it is Kate Spade.
I'm planning on getting rid of almost all of these purses, because they're just not in style anymore. They were impulse purchases, mostly.

Yes I need to get rid of some of mine as well, but it's so hard for me to do that. I've been labled around here as someone who has a purse fetish! LOL! Oh well it could be worse I guess. I mean I could be admiring some celebrity, hunting down every pic possible of him, & starting a forum for others who share in my admiration! LOL!
Yes, and who knows where THAT behavior would get you?? LMAO.
Nicolas is my big fetish. I liiiiiiiiiiiike him...

LOL! Yeah I know! You want to hear something funny? This man IS nothing but trouble! Especially in cyber space. Women can be very catty when it comes to him. Atleast that's my expirence. Then you have the ones that put on the plastic smile, but we already know that story!

Catty? How so? You mean they're catty to each other? Surely not! (rolls eyes) So do they rip on the other posters?

I think women who are carrying those "flashy" purses are out fishing for "the big one"...lol. You know how they say that fish are attracted to bright, shiny objects.....lol.
As far as the matchy, matchy deal. I match alot. I go as far as matching my outfit to my color contacts that I am wearing that day or vice versa. I go as far as matching my shoes pretty much to my outfit. As far as matching the purse to the shoes, it's too much of a hassle to me to take everything out of my bag to change to another one all the time. But I do have a purse fetish, and I have a shoe fetish, but not to match them....lol . I just like to have lots of "stuff"

Just watch "What Not To Wear" on TLC on Friday nights. Purse and shoes don't have to match, but can.
I match my undies and bra to my outfit, shoes are either black, navy, or brown at work because my bank suits are those colors. At home I'm in my bare feet or tennis shoes and those match almost everything since I'm a jeans and T-shirt gal. I have a summer purse and a winter purse that's black and try my darnest to not even carry one if I can. Wow, I'm pretty simple - just really realized that.
I have pairs of high heel shoes ( Yellow...red....black...white....) high heel booties ( 6" heel black leather half thigh....leopard short ones.....and few other kind I have high heel sandals with straps too...and I try to match my purses color with the shoes or boots ....
and I love to wear black for clothes

I love heels. I have a few pairs of heels in white, hot pink, black, brown leather... all open-toed sandal type shoes. I wish I could live in a climate that was very warm all year round, so I could live in high-heeled sandals and miniskirts, because that's my favorite way to dress. Along with a sleeveless blouse or babydoll T shirt, that's "my" outfit. As it stands, I live in Oklahoma. Our winters are usually very mild, but I can't wear miniskirts and heels all year round here. We do have a little bit of winter weather, enough to warrant sweaters and jeans. I don't look good in bulky clothing. It makes me look heavy.
I'm already anticipating spring!!

I'm the same. I like my panties and bras to match. Everything else just doesn't matter to me. I wear what I want when I want. To hell if anyone hates it. I'm not dressing to impress them. I do what makes me feel good. And I don't need a SUITCASE for a purse either!!!!! SOME people think they look more prestigious and rich with such a souvenir on their arm! Kinda like kimchee huh?
It's a "kimchee carry-all", specially lined with plastic to prevent pickled cabbage juice from dripping out of the bottom. Perfect for those impromptu Asian snack cravings.

No I'm at home. I stay FAR away from here otherwise! LOL! But I still have the kids & my older brother around that think I'm a loon sitting here literally busting out laughing. Sometimes I laugh so hard tears start rolling out of my eyes.
OH.... MY.... GAWD!! That's it. That's the piece of the puzzle that has been missing from my life for too long. How funny is that? We need to all buy these shirts and wear them when we meet! Where did you find this?

I bet it's the kind of shirt that will make ppl have some sort of comment about. Whether it be positive or negative, or just to ask what does it mean, but I predict I'll get some feed back from it.......lol

I got mine!!! But I was going to buy it for Danny, then changed my mind about letting him have it, so now it's too big. It's more like a nightshirt now.....lol. And I did get it off of EBay for those of you that want one too.
