add some class to your spaghetti!

So I was buying groceries in Target today, and was thinking about having spaghetti... did you know that Francis Ford Coppola makes pasta sauce?  DANG!!  It was $6 a jar.  On top of my $.67 box of pasta, with my $1.68 bag of Italian veggies, that would have been one hell of a dinner, eh?  LMAO.

I mean, I'm sure it's quite tasty, but I'm a working girl!  I don't know if I could justify spending $6 on a jar of pasta sauce.  What if my taste buds are not sophisticated enough to appreciate the loving care and quality that most likely goes into making something like that?  I would feel like I had let down not only myself, but the entire Coppola clan.  Could I live with knowing that I am a pedestrian rube, unworthy of their organic mushrooms and free-range tomatoes?

I dunno.  I'm half-tempted to try it sometime, just for the hell of it.  Have any of you tried this stuff?

LOL! I've never even seen it D! And I guess I see why. $6 A JAR!? Damn! What's the name of it again? I'm pretty sure no one carries it around here.

I can't remember the exact name, but it has "Coppola" in big letters at the top.  A picture of a field of tomatoes (?) and a woman's head shot... most likely a matriarch of their esteemed clan.    It's something like "Momma Coppola"... the name caught my eye (wonder why?  duh).  I read the label, and it talks about how the mushrooms and tomatoes were grown in his backyard and all that... but keeping in mind the vast wealth of their family, I'm sure their "backyard" is several hundred acres of vineyards, fields and manicured lawns.  Heh.

Nope, never seen that before & I'm sure I'd notice too. And damn that must be one hell of a back yard!

Maybe this payday (Friday) I'll buy a jar and report on it.  I'm making a conscious effort to eat healthier and the contents of this particular sauce seemed much better than the other ones I saw (no dubious ingredients that I couldn't readily pronounce, no corn syrup - why do so many foods contain corn syrup?).

You know, when you think about it, it's still a hell of a lot cheaper than eating out.  With my el cheapo pasta (99 cents for a big box), it would easily make 3 - 4 meals for me, so that's only around $2.00 a meal.  With veggies, it's about $2.50 a meal.  Not bad.

Your report is due on Saturday D! LOL!

Yeah why is corn syrup in everything? Maybe for thickening?

And $2.00 for 3-4 meals isn't bad, but I think your gonna get real tired of spaghetti after about 2! Unless that's some really good sauce! LOL!

I've never seen it in the stores down here. I'll look harder the next time I shop.

For some strange reason, everytime I go to make spagetti, I only eat the sauce and never over the pasta. I eat a bowl of sause while I'm making it, then I'm not hungary when the noodles are ready....lol.

Now, see, I don't really get sick of foods after eating them for a few days.  I guess I'm used to making a big batch of something and then eating it every day for a week.  It's much cheaper that way.  I would rather spend money on clothes or going out than on food.

If there was, though, I bet it would be good stuff... dark, strong, a little sweet but not too much.  LOL.

This is completely off-topic, but you mentioned Sofia... when I was in high school, our drama teacher had a family emergency and got one of her friends to substitute for her... his name was Rusty Steele (I am not kidding - his actual birth name) and he was from somewhere in Boston.  He was an acting coach and had worked with several actors including Sofia.  He said she was the worst actor he had ever been forced to coach, hands down.

Don't shoot the messenger!  I'm just repeating what he said!!

Haven't seen it either, but I'll look next time.  I've been reading "Natural Cures" and corn syrup is cheap.  Same with Mineral Oil ($1 per gallon I think) in skin care but it's horrible for your body!

I don't think I could do that myself. I get tired of things real fast.

She was cute in Peggysue Got Married & Rumblefish too if I'm not mistaken. She was really young. I haven't seen her grown up in anything though.

The official name of the sauce is "Italia Pennina Coppola Mammarella Porcini Marsala Gourmet Pasta Sauce".  Really.  Are you intimidated yet?

I am now eating the world-famous $6 pasta sauce.. on 69 cent pasta, with assorted veggies (asparagus, broccoli, carrots, etc.) and low-fat mozzerella cheese.  The verdict:  it's very good, but not life-altering.  Someone like me would probably be just as happy with something less expensive.  But yes, it's very good.  Not nearly as salty as other sauces, and you can actually taste the ingredients in this one.

WOW that's one heck of a long name isn't it!? LOL! It sounds yummy though especially being that it's not too salty. I don't care much for salty things.

Yes, I saw those links... lately I have been trying to stay away from fast food and high-fat food as much as possible, and I'm also trying to eat more vegetables and fruit.  I've been doing this for about a week now, and can already feel a difference.  I'm not as tired and it even seems to make me feel a little better emotionally, like I'm able to deal with work-related stress more easily.

Of course, the fact that I no longer give a flying **** about what goes on there doesn't hurt either, LOL.

Okay, I tried the sauce and I like it.  Better, the kids ate it too so it's a bonus round for everyone!!  I'd like to also try the spicier version next time.  Maybe add a little to a certain Italian sausage we all know and love....whoa, it's getting warm in here!

HOLY SHIT! I had completely forgotten that I found this at Giant supermarket about two weeks ago. I have yet to try it though. Sounds like it would be good on sausage though.

I'm thinking it would also be a tasty addition to an Italian sausage sandwich.
