There is a brush fire going on today not too far from the Hollywood Hills, smoke seen behind the Hollywood sign. (photo of smoke from fire behind hollywood hills):
It's like a day of disasters or something... our whole state was under a tornado watch yesterday and today, and one actually touched down just a few miles from my office!!!!!!!!

Wow! I had heard that there have been several tornadoes in the midwest. I hope that you won't get any that ever damage your home or town. That must have been scary one touching down near your office.
I have a bad feeling about this year. Mark my words... we're gonna be dealing with this a LOT. Oklahoma has always been on the warm side, but we've been having consecutive days in the 70s and 80s since early March, and now we're getting a lot of storms :/ It's just going to get warmer and stormier, and you know what that means....
Oklahoma and Kansas are in a bad area of the U.S., because we get hit with the cold fronts coming down and warm fronts coming up (with no mountains for buffer), and when they collide the conditions are right for tornadoes... and they can strike in minutes if you aren't vigilant! People make fun of Oklahoma meteorologists because they act so paranoid about spring and summer storms, but you have to know ASAP what the storms are doing so you can get to shelter.

I don't ever make fun since I've been in the middle of those hum dingers more than once. We practice tornado drills at school and at home. I have a kit in my basement. And it's quick, no 3 day warning "you might want to leave". We're lucky if the sirens have time to go off.
They're quite disturbing. The skies turn a dark grayish-yellow, and everything gets really quiet all of a sudden. The birds stop chirping and every dog in the neighborhood shuts their yap and hides. A lot of times, you can actually see the funnel forming from a distance.

Wow, you really have a lot to deal with, does all that tornados and fire's happen a lot?
The only thing that we have to watch out for are floodings, always renewing the dikes... Me and my family live in the dangerzone, near the northsea, but the weird thing is that the floodings are -allmost- always in the east of the country, near Germany...

Yeah great place to live, last major flood was in 1953. But the waterlevel is still rising so we really dont know when to expect the next one. And we have a lot of rain, like today.
But I bet America is a beautiful country to live,

Hi Kyla, Fires don't happen too often, only when it is very dry, or when its dry and someone throws down a lit cigarette on the dry ground. Maybe one day you can visit America
